Imphal, June 9: The Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) has condemned the kidnapping and subsequent torture and physical assault of secretary of Kangchup Phaijol local church on June 6 last.
A statement of TSA General Headquarters secretary-general Michael Lamjathang said that the church leader Kaikam Kipgen was kidnapped and later physically assaulted allegedly by cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Army/Kuki National Organisation (KRA/KNO) in Kangpokpi district around 11:45 of June 6.
“This act of torture and assault of a religious leader by the SoO signatory group is very unfortunate and should not be repeated,” the TSA statement appealed.
“We also condemn the murder of Timothy Lhanghal, Commander-in-Chief of Kuki Liberation Army/Kuki Liberation Organization (KLA/KLO), a SoO Signatory group under Kuki National Organization, around 9:30 am of June 8 at Thangkanphai village under Saikul Police Station in Kangpokpi district.
The frequent occurrences of violence and murder in the state, particularly within Thadou community, have caused a serious concern, it said.
“We would like to appeal to all armed groups to refrain from violence. We urge them to strive for forgiveness and love and to achieve a free, peaceful and progressive society. The state government must tackle the problem in all seriousness to restore peace and security in the state,” the TSA statement said.
