Imphal, July 24: Manipur Police at the border town of Moreh have arrested a man who they say shot and killed his 15-year-old girlfriend Sunday morning inside her home.
The victim, identified as Nengneingah Khongsai was shot in the forehead by her alleged boyfriend Seikhosat Haokip alias Sasat Haokip.
Seikhosat Haokip is reported to be the bodyguard of a local KNO leader Sonkholun Haokip.
KNO and its armed wing Kuki National Army, which has wide presence in the border town is a signatory of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact with the Manipur government and central government of India, police said on Sunday.
The Kuki National Army announced its grief over the incident, and finally agreed to pay Rs 8 lakh as a compensation to the victim, killed by its cadre.
The victim is a Class-IX student of Mount Moreh High School.
The accused killer was later arrested by the police. Police also recovered a country made 9mm pistol with 3 live rounds from his possession, that turned out to have been used in the killing.
Meanwhile, Kuki Student’s Organisation General Headquarters announced in statement that it vehemently condemns the cold blooded murder of Miss Nengneingah Khongsai (15) of Thingphai Village, Tengnoupal district, presently residing at Moreh border town pursuing her IX standard at Mt. Moreh Public School, by suspected armed man believe to a cadre of KNA/KNO which is a Suspension of Operation SoO signatory group.
KSO reiterates its stance against wanton killing of innocent civilians by gun wielding UGs, the statement said.
