Three days after he died, SS Khaplang was laid to rest at the council headquarters of NSCN(K) on Monday.
Final farewell to the Man of Steel and the man of principle S.S. Khaplang, Chairman of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland and the President of the Government of the People Republic of Nagaland (NSCN/GPRN) was held at Taga, Myanmar on 12th June 2017.
The supreme commander of NSCN(K), suffering from diabetes and other health issues, died on June 9 following a cardiac arrest at his residence inside the NSCN(K)’s council headquarter. 77 –year-old Naga rebel chief was ailing for more than a year.
SS Khaplang is being remembered not only for his legacy of great leadership but for his role in uniting rebel groups from the Northeastern Indian states.
Almost one week after the death of SS Khaplang, rare and unpublished photographs of his funeral have come to light on social media.
On June 12, an estimated 1000 Nagas from the Naga Self-Administered Zone and leaders of various armed groups lined the streets at Taga to watch the coffin’s procession towards the cemetery.
Eleven armed cadres offered gun-salute to the departed leader as a mark of respect.
Naga Self-Administered Zone inside Sagaing Region consists of Lahe Township, Leshi Township, and Nanyun Township.
