One active member of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Khaplang) faction has been killed by security forces during an encounter that took place at Tissa village in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Kohima-based Defence PRO Colonel C Kowner said the militant was killed during a shoot-out with troops of Assam Rifles in a remote village on last evening.
“Acting on specific intelligence about NSCN(K) cadres carryingout extortion from villagers in Tissa, troops of Assam Rifles swiftly launched an operation and identified the suspected house. The column established a cordon around the house and began searching for the terrorists. During search operations, the column noticed two suspected cadres trying to flee the scene. The party challenged the duo and asked them to surrender, however the fleeing terrorists opened fire, forcing the AR troops to retaliate, resulting in elimination of one NSCN (K) cadre” said a press release issued by the Assam Rifles.
The PRO also said that a colt pistol and a radio set were recovered on the encounter site, adding that the slain militant self-styled Sergeant-Major Poigan Again had joined the NSCN(K) in 2014.
