Aizawl, June 30: Mizoram Taxation Minister Pu Lalsawta is scheduled to attend Goods & Service Tax (GST) Council Meeting to be held in Delhi on Friday.
Official sources said that Lalsawta along with officials from the Taxation Department of Mizoram government left Aizawl yesterday
While most states approved or passed the “State Goods & Service Tax (SGST) Bill 2017,” Mizoram and West Bengal were yet to fulfill the demands of the central government.
The Ministry of Finance under government of India has issued a notice regarding the launching programme of GST, scheduled to be held on Friday midnight. GST, an indirect tax regime will functions from tomorrow, the 1st July 2017.
Launching of GST will be held at the Indian Parliament, where politicians, members of parliament, and other high-ranking officials from both the centre and states were believed to be present.
Indian finance minister has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the GST, while the outgoing President, Pranab Mukherjee will also grace the event.
An official from the Finance Department of Mizoram told our reporter that minister Lalsawta will return back on July 2 after attending the function in Delhi. He will also meet leaders from the central government during his stay in the national capital.
Before leaving for Delhi, Lalsawta said that Mizoram will pass the GST on July 1, and will join the other states in using the new tax regime.
