Mizoram today inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd for purchase and upgradation of Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) at the cost of Rs. 20,04,852.
The MoU was signed by Aizawl Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority, Aizawl District Kannan Gopinathan on behalf of Mizoram government and S. Bhattacharrya, Deputy General Manager of Powergrid Corporation of India Limited.
Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) is designed to be used during natural calamity, sources said. Mizoram has only one gypsy at Aizawl DC’s office, which was upgraded since June 29 last year.
The vehicle was also used in 35 occasions for rescue operation during a massive landslide, fire and drowning incidents across the state.
The government has also constituted Quick Response Team (QRT) among DC office staffers who were assigned to dealt with any incident in the state.
However, vehicles owned by Aizawl DC’s office became old and outdated. The government had recently approached Power grid and sought help from the latter, who accordingly agreed to sign MoU under its Corporate Social Responsibility, with the Mizoram government.
As per the MoU, one Tata Xenon 4X4 and other emergency equipments will be purchased for rescue operations in the state.
