Heaping praise on the martyrs who died during MNF independent movement, MNF president Zoramthanga said they have laid down their precious lives for the cause of Mizoram and Mizo people.
“The martyr gave their lives not only for the MNF, but for all Mizos including Congress workers and other party workers,” Zoramthanga said while addressing a party meeting at Mizo Hnam Run on Friday.
Zoramthanga said that thousands of Mizo youths joined the MNF led by its leader Laldenga and declared independence from the Indian government.
This has resulted in unrest and insurgency in Mizoram for about 20 years.
He said that during the insurgency period about 3000 Mizo heroes sacrificed their lives for the cause of Mizoram and Mizo people.
Backing the Mizo martyrs, he said that they deserved respect and accolade like cadres of Indian National Army (INA) as they have laid down their lives for the betterment of the Mizos.
Zoramthanga had earlier said that the martyrdom of the Mizo heroes was utilized by the MNF as a political weapon.
Backing his remarks, he said that the martyrdom of the Mizo heroes could not only be utilized by the MNF, but by the Congress, ZNP, MPC and other political parties as political weapon since they laid down their lives for the cause of all Mizos.
Zoramthanga said that the skeletal remains of martyrs who have been buried in different parts of the state and neighbouring countries would be collected and re-buried at Martyr cemetery located at Lungmual on the outskirt of Aizawl.
He said that the MNF, if comes to power would take an effort to upgrade Mizo martyr cemetery to be the best martyr cemetery in the Northeast.
