Dimapur, August 10: Assam Rifles on Thursday rescued a kidnapped man during an operation at Dimapur’s Purana Bazar.
Public Relations Officer of the IGAR HQ (North) said that one cadre from the Naga National Council (NNC) who was involved in the kidnapping was also arrested, adding that both were handed over to the East Police Station, Dimapur for further investigation.
The rescued person, who was originally from Dimapur’ Signal Basti was kidnapped by unknown armed men on July 31. He was rescued when representatives from the Nagaland Police and Assam Rifles launched a massive rescue operation, informed a source.
Meanwhile, five cadres of the GPRN/NSCN were arrested by the 36-Assam Rifles in Peren district, Nagaland on Thursday. They were identified as ‘Cpl’ Sitang Zeliang (32), ‘Raja peyu’ Ramriwi Zeliang (35), ‘Sgt’ (Discharged) Nzuakan Zeliang (32), ‘Cpl’ Anthony Zeliang (30), and ‘Pvt’ Babu Zeliang, (22).
Security sources said the arrested militants belonged to the Kitovi-Neokpao group of National Socialist Council of Nagalim. GPRN/NSCN is currently in ceasefire with the Central government of India.
